Castelfalfi Tuscany: Luxury Escape & Italian Elegance

Castelfalfi Tuscany is where history, elegance, and contemporary luxury come together in the heart of Italy. Nestled amid the rolling hills of Montaione, this reimagined medieval borgo offers a timeless retreat for travelers seeking beauty, culture and renewal. Once a quiet fortress village, Castelfalfi today embodies the Italian art of living, a place where every stone, sunset and flavor tells a story of refined simplicity.

From medieval borgo to refined retreat

Arriving in Montaione, you’re immediately enveloped by the quiet grandeur of Tuscany, soft light on terracotta rooftops, vineyards stretching to the horizon, and a landscape shaped as much by history as by nature. At the center lies Castelfalfi Tuscany, once known as Castrum Faolfi, now transformed into a refined retreat, as a sanctuary of Italian art de vivre, where history, gastronomy and wellness come together with timeless elegance.

The echoes of the past linger in the ancient church of San Floriano and the stone walls of La Rocca, now home to the Michelin-starred restaurant La Rocca di Castelfalfi.

Here, history doesn’t just survive, it evolves, offering travelers a dialogue between past and present. It’s a destination where centuries of craftsmanship meet modern comfort, creating a sanctuary for the senses.

A 40th Birthday Escape

I arrived at Castelfalfi Tuscany to celebrate my 40th birthday. A milestone marked not by age, but by reinvention. My sweet little cream dachshund, Takkie, was my companion for this journey of rediscovery.

Our experience began at Rakxa Spa, where a rejuvenating facial erased years in an hour, followed by a signature massage in a quiet garden overlooking the Tuscan hills.

As the afternoon softened into golden hour, Takkie and I wandered toward the bar perched above the valley. When the sun began its slow descent, the Tuscan countryside transformed into a living canvas, rolling hills bathed in orange light, cypress trees silhouetted against the sky. With a perfectly crafted aperitivo in hand and my faithful companion curled at my feet, I paused. It was one of those suspended moments that quietly redefine you. At forty, I wasn’t chasing celebration, I was savoring presence, grace and the luxury of stillness.

Michelin Star Restaurant La Rocca di Castelfalfi

Before arriving at Castelfalfi Tuscany, I booked my birthday dinner at Michelin-starred restaurant La Rocca di Castelfalfi, led by Sicilian chef Davide De Simone.

Life, however, had other plans: just days before my arrival, the restaurant was privatized last-minute. Instead of disappointment, I embraced the unexpected. I dined under a star-strewn sky at “Olivina”, where Tuscan tradition meets modern bistrot chic. Between velvety olive oil, homemade pasta and local wines, the dinner turned into a memory defined by refined simplicity.

Discover the essence of Castellfalfi Tuscany : Wine, Olive Oil & Tuscan Secrets

The following day, I immersed myself in Castelfalfi’s heritage of taste: an intimate wine and olive oil tasting in the estate’s own cellar. I learned the delicate alchemy behind their wines and olive oils. True excellence in olive oil lies in speed, from harvest to mill and at Castelfalfi, the journey is nearly instantaneous thanks to their private mill. Seven kilos of olives for a single liter of golden intensity. A testament of the estate’s meticulous care. With 10,000 olive trees and 60 acres of vineyards, Castelfalfi Tuscany is not just a destination, it is a living terroir.

The Spirit of Tuscan Living

At Castelfalfi Tuscany, the rhythm of life slows down. Mornings begin with golden light over the vineyards and a breakfast rich in local flavors.

Days unfold with yoga at sunrise, e-bike rides through olive groves, and moments of quiet reflection by the infinity pool.

Beyond the resort, the medieval towns of Volterra and San Gimignano invite, offering cobblestone charm and panoramic views. Whether savoring Chianti at sunset or walking ancient paths with my dog by my side, each moment deepened my connection to Tuscany’s soul.

More to Discover

One weekend was not nearly enough. Between the 27-hole golf course, truffle hunting adventures with dogs (perhaps one day Takkie will join the hunt) and the Michelin experience at “La Rocca” still awaiting, Castelfalfi Tuscany feels like an invitation to return.

Because some escapes are not meant to be ticked off a list. They are meant to be lived again and again, each time, a little differently, a little more deeply. That’s the essence of luxury travel in Italy: the Italian art de vivre, reimagined in Tuscany.

Whether for a milestone celebration or a weekend escape, Castelfalfi Tuscany invites you to return and rediscover yourself each time.
